Gatorama is one of Florida's first Alligator Attractions. Started in 1957 by Cecil Clemons, Gatorama was the home of a few hundred alligators. In the mid - 1960's, when U.S. 27 was paved and became the main route between Tampa and Miami, Gatorama became a thriving tourist attraction. Only to fall on harder times in the 1970's when I-75 and the Florida Turnpike were built.
David Thielen and his wife Marietta purchased Gatorama in 1986 from Mr. Clemons. David and Marietta, with the help of their family, developed Gatorama into an operating alligator farm as well as rebuilding the tourism segment.
