Business internet marketing small tip

Why is your site not showing up on search engines

You have designed your website perfectly, as per your judgment, but the search engine doesnt index your site what could be the possible reason There could be reasons well contained within the designing of your website which prevent your site from getting listed with search engines. The list of possible reasons where your designing has gone wrong may be one or more from the list given here.

• Your design could be based on frames, which are not so easily indexed by search engines. The search engines may index the frame set page but may fail to index individual frames. When using frames there is no scope for Meta tags and title tags, which can further escalate the problem.

• Your website may have more of graphics used and very less text, avoid this. Or else try to make some more pages which are rich in content. Add related and fresh content periodically because content is the king of SEO. Text in the form of graphics cannot be read by search engine spiders, so your site doesnt get indexed at all if it is full of graphics with very little text based content.

• Dont submit any web pages that have no real content of their own and simply contain redirecting links only. Such pages are eliminated by the search engines in their lists. Submit only those pages which contain actual content.

• Your content must contain keywords in proper amounts to get indexed for that particular keyword. But if you think you can use the keywords over and over again to get a higher listing, you are going in the wrong direction. If the keywords are unnecessarily used the search engines treat this as spam, and your site will never get listed. Try to keep your keyword density within one to four percent, anything beyond that will do you harm.

• It has been a policy with some web designers to put the keywords on a page in the background color just to increase the usage of key words on the page. This is easily detected by the search engines and the out come is that your website gets black listed.

• It is often advised that you must submit the site to the search engines, though there is virtually no problem with submitting your site, but overdoing it will invite only penalties.

• Every website on the net needs to have a unique IP address, and if your site doesnt have one you will not feature in the search results. For this you must get in touch with your web hosts as they will provide you with this. An IP address is a set of for numbers separated by decimals.

• If you have moved your website to a new server then you need to resubmit with the search engines. Because as you move from one server to the other your IP address changes every time and the search engines best recognize you from your IP address.

• Some search engines tend to define the maximum number of pages they will index from one single domain. This can be a problem if you are using a free web hosting service, which would have lots of pages already indexed and so your pages may not get indexed.

• There is some possibility that your server was down when the search engine spiders approached your website for indexing. The chances of this happening are very low, still it points out the benefit of using servers with 99% uptime.

• Search engines use programs called spiders or crawlers which visit your website and carry out the indexing work. These programs do not use the web browser technology to reach and read you site. So if your site is excessively based on flash, dhtml and JavaScript these spiders may not be able to read your site. The solution is simple get more text into your site as that is the only thing these spiders can read.

• Your website may not be link rich. Search engines consider how many inward links come to your site from other good sites. If you are low in your link popularity you are not a preferred website, and that puts you very low in the search results.

• Your website url address should ideally not have any special characters in it. It does happen sometimes that url addresses contain special characters which cannot be read by search engine spiders and thus such websites may not get indexed.

• Your host server speed may also affect your getting indexed, if the server is too slow your website may not get indexed.

• You need to ascertain the correct keywords for which you wish to get indexed and make sure that these words have been used in the right places and the right form on your website.

• There could be design related problems which retard the search engine spiders from indexing your website. Such things could be some wrongly used meta tags in the web pages or something as minute as a simple text file in the root directory of your web hosting server. When you find that your website is not getting indexed look for such small things which could retard the spiders from indexing your site.

• There could be problems related to your DNS names. After putting up your site wait for a few days before submitting as it normally takes 2 to 4 days to get active and if during this time the spider comes looking for the site and doesnt find it in place, it may not return to index the website.

These were some points you should make a check on to see that it is not your fault if your website is not getting indexed with the search engines.
