Kensington ,London Kensington London is one of the places attracting the most number of tourists in London, owing to its reputation as being one of the haunts of the rich and the famous as well as for its array of exotic shops. Kensington High Street attracts a lot of tourists, as its shops are excellent. The Kensington Palace and Gardens, Holland Park, The Royal Albert Hall, The Natural History Museum, The Science Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Royal College of Art, Imperial College and The Olympia Exhibition hall are the main attractions in Kensington. Queen Victoria had been born in Kensington Palace. It opened to the public in 1912.Kensington Palace had been called Nottingham house before King William the third purchased the house in the year 1689. The palace tour includes the state apartments and the room where Queen Victoria had been baptized. Some of the royal art collection and some dresses worn by Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana are on display. Kensington Gardens includes the well-kept Sunken Gardens and the Orangery where afternoon tea is served. Kensington Garden is one of the royal parks and spreads over 275 acres. The garden lies to the west of Hyde Park. The Albert Memorial, Kensington Palace, The Peter Pan Statue, Speke's monument and Round Pond are tourist attractions in the garden Holland Park is located in one of the most expensive residential areas of London, and a number of countries maintain embassies. The park had been a part of a house called the Holland House. The park has cricket pitch, tennis court, an exquisite Japanese garden, and one of the best-equipped children’s playgrounds. The Royal Albert Hall of Arts And Sciences had been a dream project of Prince Albret and was opened in the year 1871 in his memory. The Natural History Museum has an awe-inspiring life and earth science collection comprising some 70 million specimens. Items from botany, entomology mineralogy, paleontology and zoology are on display. The tourists love the garden containing a variety of plants and animals. The museum is reputed for its Central Hall and its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons, especially the prominently large Diplodocus cast which looms over the entrance. The Science Museum and The Victoria and Albert Museum had been part of The South Kensington Museum. The Museum was founded in 1857 but segregated in 1885 and renamed as the Science Museum. The Science Museum houses a collection of over 300,000 items, including such rare items as Stephenson's rocket, the first jet engine, first made model of dna, some of the first few steam engines and a working example of Charles Babbage's difference engine etc. The Victoria and Albert Museum has a commendable collection of art items from Europe, India, China, Korea, Japan, and the Islamic world. There are separate galleries for items made of glass, stained glass, ceramics and metal works. Individual galleries for sculpture, church plate armour, weapons, costumes, textiles, musical instruments attract a lot of visitors. Hostels cost about £30 per person per night. The youth hostel in Earl’s court has dormitory accommodation offering 4 to 10 beds per room, with common bathrooms and self-catering kitchens and Internet facilities. The youth hostel in Holland House is very much in demand as it has an excellent view, offers breakfast lunch and dinner if desired, has a self-catering kitchen, offers laundry services also it costs about £30 per person for a night. Apartments are available that charge £50 to £100 per person. The Aston apartments and JSK Locations can be referred to for rental apartments. Rooms in The Curzon House Hotel cost about £30 per day. The Abbey House Hotel, Ramsees Hotel, Merlyn Court Hotel, Annadale House Hotel, etc. charge £30 to £50 per day. Rooms in The Garden Court Hotel, The Gate Hotel, and The Maranton House Hotel cost £50 to £100 per day. Vicarage Hotel, Gainsborough Hotel have tariff above £100 per day. Restaurants Fast food outlets like the McDonalds, The Burger King, The Kentucky Fried Chicken, the Pret a Manger and Wagamama offer food that is tasty, not to harsh on the pocket and that make a good meal Cafes like the Holland Park Café, the Picasso café and café Lazeez serve delicious food at reasonable rates. Troubadour, a coffee house reputed to have hosted John Lennon, is known for its delicious wares.
