Registration:
Following are the ways by which one can get registered in these schools.
1. Spot enquiry
2. Family resource centre
3. Online enquiry (website: www.bostonpublicschools.org)
Family Resource Center:
Registration begins for kindergarten and grades 1, 6, 9 in first months of the year and in the next month for the subsequent grades.
To register, the child parents have to go to a Family Resource Center and find out about their school choices or from the website. From here they can access information regarding documents needed for registration, about school submission process, and other information about the school etc. The information can be known in different languages such as Chinese, English, Haitian, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese etc...
At the outset the primary document needed is the identity of the child as well as that of the parent. Generally, for residential testimonial proof of address is accepted.
Admission priority:
The distances between childs home and school is the main priority for allotting seats so that bus transportation for the distanced students can be avoided. Normally the Boston Public School provides a list of schools near to the childs home. The parents have the option to choose the school of their choice to admit their ward.
50 % seats in a school are reserved for applicants with "walk zone priority" who live within 1 mile of an elementary school, within 1.5 miles of a middle school, or within 2 miles of a high school, regardless of zone boundaries. Rest of the available seats is allotted to students from the entire zone.
Apart from these the children from the same family are given priority to admit in the same school. Family requests and facilities in the school i.e. enough space and capacity of the school is considered for this. The students must reside in the same household with a common parent/guardian to avail this facility. Sibling priority should be notified to the school when the first child is being admitted do the school when the parents are expecting a second child.
Curriculum:
Taking up the technological advantages, a substantial cutting-edge curriculum is being introduced in these schools. In all of the BPS schools, advance methodology of studying and use of instruments are being implemented. The classroom-superior materials are provided to students so that they can work individually or in small groups on a series of various activities. For better studying environment use of computers is compulsory for some levels of the students. Computers are connected to many knowledge resources and centres.
The methodical arrangements are taking place to make the study environment fit with the coming century so that they are the model schools of the next years.
The BPS conducts Extra-curricular Activities in a regular basis for an all-round improvement of the child. The schools conduct Entertainment, Outdoor Adventures and Day Camps for extra curricular activities and recreation. Teachers of the schools make Indoor Fun and fun with learning.
