The better it is the higher will be the spot where your website features in the search engine result pages (SERPS). In Googles ranking system the scale used is a ten point scale reading from 1 to 10 and 10 being the best. As the high rankers are constantly making efforts to improve their page rank by adding in more links, the task for the ones ranking low gets increased and tougher to meet up with the intensifying competition. And this chase and catch up trend is what adds in increased costs to the entire web promotional campaigns.

The thing that further complicates the issue is that all links are not equal. So it may not be wise to panic and rush off to increase the links to your website. Its will only cost you time and money, not to forget the effort that you put in will all be a waste taking you nowhere. The so called experts talk of getting links from high page rank sites as they feel that only such links make all the difference, but in practical many a site have benefited from linking up with lower pagerank sites as well. Nothing to get confused, there is an algorithm setup in the page ranking system which calculates the page rank boost by dividing the page rank of a page by the number of links that are their on the page. So working on these grounds when you have a high pagerank page, with over a hundred links on it, may not get you the kind of weight-age that a page with a low page rank with just a few links can get you. Links can be had from directories, through reciprocal link exchange with other sites, or by soliciting links from better ranking site, internet marketing for online business but it all takes a lot of time. When looking out for links, you are bound to come across various link exchange programs. But the most effective are the text links, and placing one on a high ranking site would mean a lot of escalated cost to you. In the temptation to gain links dont end up doing the blunder of putting up a links page to allow anyone to link to your site, this will just add on to your administrative work load and could leave your visitors wondering if they are on the right site.

So this all ends up emphasizing that you need more quality links, irrespective of how time consuming or expensive it is. Talking of the expenses these expenses are nothing as compared to what you would have to spend on pay per click or any other form of internet marketing for online business.

The search engine optimization requires a lot of time and effort and there is not set model which all websites could adopt, you have to design your own tailor made model based on your needs and objectives. But all said and done the entire process is very rewarding.
