HISTORY OF LONDON CITY

This city, brimming with life and joy through out the year was a roman colony around 43 AD. According to the research documents about London, the word London meant a ‘wild’ place. This place was a deserted one and the Roman empires used the geography of the city to develop it into the commercial capital of the United Kingdom. Not surprisingly, the language spoken here was Latin.

Research scholars also advocate the fact that the name London arrived from the name of the King Lud. It is believed that the King laid out the first plans for roads in the city. The king still stands tall as a statute behind the St. Dunston’s church, Fleet Street.

The tribe of Celts invaded London around 61 AD. The tribe almost burnt the town to ashes. The archeologists have found a layer of red ash below the ground level in the city that proves this fact. The invasion of this tribe brought the downfall of the great Roman Empire in London. Once the Roman Empire was left handicapped, the town Londonium was changed to Lundenwic.

Since then London has been the throne of royal English emperors.

LONDON: ON WAY TO SUCCESS

The London city flourished as the capital city on British Empire from the sixteenth to early twentieth century. This was the era of colonization. The British Empire exploited the natural harbor to the fullest extent. The Crown extended its rule to the other continents of the world. The natural resources from those colonies were used as a house of the raw materials.

These materials were processed and produced as finished goods by the British. Here London as the central point of import and export. The city proved to turn every raw material into gold.

London also saw some obstacles like ‘The Great Fire of London’ on the way to unprecedented growth. The fire swept the city for three continuous days i.e. from September 2, 1666 to September 5. Not to mention that this brought in uninvited barrages to the steep development in the city’s future.
