London’s world class status is reflected in the skies. You can get almost anywhere swiftly from the city’s five major airports. Travel London is served by nearly every international airline, and the vast majority have offices here. You can book your tickets directly from the airline, go via a travel agent or opt for one of the many discounted flight detailers.

Eurostar is a quick and easy way to travel between the UK and continental Europe via the Channel Tunnel. Travel in style and avoid the hassle of airports with this high-speed rail service, which is both comfortable and affordable.

There are frequent inter-capital services from London Waterloo to Paris and Brussels daily. The Paris journey takes two hours 35 minutes. Brussels is two hours and 20 minutes away. Some services stop at Ashford (Kent), Calais Frethun, Disneyland Paris, Lille and Avignon. In winter, services run to the ski resorts of Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice in the Alps.

Eurostar Plus is a service run in association with the high-speed rail services in France (TGV) and Belgium (Thalys). It provides convenient connections within France and Belgium plus additional links to Germany and the Netherlands.

London is the hub of the UK’s rail network, with frequent services to all corners of the country from the city’s centrally-located mainline railway stations. Rail services in the UK are run by a set of private train operating companies. Your point of departure will determine the best service to take and your station of arrival in London.

Modern coaches are light years away from the coaches of even ten or fifteen years ago. The vehicles are more reliable, quiet and powerful. They are double glazed and climate controlled with toilets as standard. Driver’s hours are strictly controlled and the vehicles themselves are built to high standards.

It is legal to drive in Britain with a valid driving licence from outside the UK for up to twelve months from the time of arrival. Britons drive on the left side of the road. Before arriving it is essential to ensure that you are adequately insured and that your vehicle is roadworthy

With the drive to make use of London’s often overlooked ‘liquid artery’, companies running shuttle boats on the river have been sprouting up in recent years. There’s good news for Travelcard holders: you get one-third off all fares listed below. Private boat operators crowd the piers and will often tout for customers – you’ll find them around Embankment, Westminster and even down as far as Richmond. For something more romantic, there is no shortage of dinner cruises, offering dancing, music and fine food against a backdrop of the city at night.
