Initial Pendants

A Pendant is a an old French word which generally meant a hanging object attached to a necklace or an earring. It is a richly jewelled symbol. The word should not be confused with pennant. Pendants may have several purposes.

Its used for ornamentation, ostentation and beautification. Its also used as an identification of religious symbols, sex symbols and symbols of rock bands. People also use it as self- affirmation and wear initial or name pendants. By wearing an initial pendant a person may tell the world who he is and look fabulous.

A necklace is generally an article of jewellery which is worn around the neck. The older word for necklace is collar which lies flat to the body rather than hanging freely. The style was introduced by Queen Alexandra of Denmark who wore it to hide a scar on her neck. The livery collars or chains of office was worn by officers of state in England and the United Kingdom, and the chains were also worn with various Orders of Knighthood. A torc, is a rigid circular necklace that is open-ended at the front. Torcs were worn by people from the Bronze Age. Torcs were made from intertwined metal strands, usually made of gold or bronze. Necklaces are often attached to a pendant. People from the Christian Community wear a cross or crucifix which differs in shape, size, material and color. Others wear the cross merely for style or decoration and may not be a Christian. When a necklace is worn high on the neck it is referred to as a choker. A choker is 14" to 16" long and sits on the base of the neck.

Different Styles of Initial Pendants:

The initial pendant usually comes with a variety of styles and fonts. It may be cursive letters or block type letters and comes with a number of designs. They may be made from gold or sterling silver, and may be encrusted with diamonds or cubic zirconias. But it extremely depends on how important sparkle and expenses are to the person buying the piece and the person wearing it.

Another type of initial pendant is to have name or initials engraved on a plate. For instance,

someone who defines his or her identity by being from a particular state might get a pendant in the shape of that state and have an initial engraved on it. Two people in love may want to get matching pendants which others names engraved on them and exchange them. Perhaps this is a better idea than getting a tattoo. Its a gift which is sure to be a hit. It is often attached to a necklace. Like initial pendants, nameplates are also available these days in a number of designs. The person decides that he wants to go for a gold nameplate or one with jewels.

Initial Celtic Pendants:

Celtic Pendants can be made of any material. They are generally made from gold or silver. Each pendant can be personalized with initials, words, jewels, or special designs. A design that is traditional, historic and meaningful to the Celtic culture can also be chosen. For instance knotwork represents never ending pattern which signifies true love. On the other hand, spirals were typically used on gravesites.

Various Other Forms of Initial Pendant:

The unique 18k first sacrament cut a jour pendant, has a touch of history attached to it. This is a gorgeous early 20th century pendant. It is believed to be either Belgian or French. The pendant is made entirely of 18K dark yellow gold. The piece carries a: CG. The pendant features an engraved text on its edge, remembering of first communion 12th May 1921.

Gold and Ammolite pendants are classified as opalescent as they change colour when the light hits them in different ways. These pendants change the nature and focus of the entire outfit. They are also classified as fossils.

A Stone Pendant is a unique piece of jewellery. The stone used to make a Kirin Stone Pendant is actually called the Kirin in the context of Eastern culture. It is named so because of the colouration similarities between the stone and the creature of myth called the Kirin. The colors on the Kirin were shown on the scales of the dragon. The stones are actually the fossilized shells of a sea creature that existed millions of years ago. In Feng Shui, the stone pendant is referred to as the Seven Color Prosperity Stone pendant.

The silver pendant adds a dazzling value when worn with a choker, necklace or mid- length looks. A different look can be created by pairing silver pendants with a variety of chain lengths and types. Interchanging silver pendants with ones existing necklaces is a great way to expand our jewellery collection.
