Plano is a city situated in Texas, U.S.A. Being
a suburb of Dallas, Texas; it is mainly within the Collin County.
It is also the ninth largest city in Texas.
History:
In the early 1840s, several settlers came to the area
now known as Plano. When the mail service was established, it rejected several names that were proposed for the up-and-coming town (including naming it in honor of then-President Millard Fillmore). The locals then suggested the name Plano - the Spanish word for flat as a reference to the land of the area. The name was accepted by the post office and Plano was born.
The Houston and Texas Railroad was completed in 1872. As a result, the city grew and was officially incorporated in 1873.
In 1881, when a fire raged through the central business district, it destroyed most of the buildings. Nevertheless, the city was built again and business thrived throughout the 1880s.
Many large companies, such as JC Penney and Frito-Lay, moved their headquarters to Plano during the 1980s. This only helped the city grow more and more. By 1994, the city was known as an All-America City.
Geography:
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 185.5 km. Approximately 185.4 km of it is land and 0.2 km of it is water.

And Plano was also named the highest income place with a population of 130,000 or more in 2000.
Business:
It is said that almost 80% of out-of-area travelers visit Plano
for business. This is mainly due to the city's close proximity
to Dallas.

State Highway 289 is also a major highway that runs through the city and even though its not a freeway, it is perhaps the most important road in Dallas

You just cant help but remember the good old days at the Fairview Farm Market, which provides an atmosphere of the farm life in the olden days. This market runs only from April to October and offers fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants.

Theatrical productions, vocal performances and art shows are hosted in the building throughout the year. It also features many galleries of local artistic works.
Theres also the JCPenney Museum, which offers visitors an insiders look into the history of the major department store. Historical records, artifacts, photos, company newspapers, catalogues they all can be found on display in the museum.
